Ok, I'll test that then. Might as well. All the buggers on Stack and elsewhere were saying it had to be done with macros though, which is why I went with macros.
There's nothing really wrong with macros. Syntax is very simple for n00bs, so easy to personalise translations. As long as you get your text between the tags it'll work.
Also, I rather like the idea of splitting the strings down into template-specific files. Kinda makes more sense than importing the lot where you don't need to. Although in some cases you might want to create a string that could be used anywhere, so having that option is a good thing.
